WWMT TV spoke with Randall Levine about Michigan’s self-defense laws after murder charges were filed in a case involving medical marijuana in Kalamazoo Township. The individual being charged claims the victim was attempting to steal his medical marijuana.
Levine told WWMT that Michigan Law does not allow for the use of force to protect theft of personal property, but it is allowed if someone feels they are in danger.
“Before anyone can rush to judgment, it would be important to know what was said. Were threats made, did the defendant feel that his life was in jeopardy and all at the time of the act,” said Levine during the interview. “All those things are questions that need to be answered and ultimately a jury may have to decide them.”
